Merdeka Day 2024

Every year, Merdeka Day is celebrated with more than just waving the flag high or making a parade through the streets. Regardless of ethnicity or religion, it is a moral obligation and shows pride in being a Malaysian. It's a moment for Malaysians to pause, think back, and honor the leaders of the past who gave their lives to bring about independence. It's a vibrant festival period for those from other countries. Merdeka Day is a national holiday in Malaysia, marked with much fanfare and celebration. Every year, the National Merdeka Day Parade is organized to honor this important day. In addition to artistically constructed floats based on the celebration's theme and the organizations' missions, there will be lively performances by dancers and police and military marching units. The entire country celebrates Malaysia's National Day. Putrajaya is the location of this year's National Day festivities.


 

Malaysia Merdeka Day Celebration 2024

( Location and Activities )

The celebration of National Day 2024 will be held on August 31st at Dataran Putrajaya, Putrajaya Federal Territory, starting at 7:00 am. This year's theme is "Malaysia Madani: Spirit of Independence," and it includes various programs such as the National Expression Program 2024, National Month Launching Ceremony & Flying the Jalur Gemilang 2024, Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang, Merdeka Soul Steps together to Build Malaysia MADANI, Semarak Gemilang Kita MADANI, MADANI Village, and Live Jam hosted by the event. The Malaysian community has organized a diverse range of national activities aimed at fostering a sense of national identity and promoting patriotism among its members.


 

NATIONAL DAY EVENTS

In 2024, the National Day celebration will feature several captivating events such as the Formation of a brass band, a Parade showcasing the latest equipment, a Decorated carriage (float), a Military air show, the Madani Malaysia arts performance (featuring dance, hand drill, and stomp), a Human graphic formation (involving dancing and hand drill), and Unarmed combat demonstrations.

Craft and Food Vendors


Savor an extensive selection of locally-sourced culinary delights, presented by a diverse range of vendors, while simultaneously discovering a myriad of unique, handcrafted products exclusively showcased at the meticulously arranged booths for the event.







Attend National Day Parade


The Merdeka celebration's main attraction is the grand parade, showcasing Malaysia's police, military, and other uniformed entities. Along with that, visitors can enjoy traditional dances, cultural displays, and floats representing different states.








Cultural Performances


Throughout the day, a variety of cultural events will showcase Malaysia's diverse heritage. These events will feature a range of artistic expressions, such as dance, music, and drama performances, highlighting the country's rich cultural tapestry.






Fireworks Performance


As the clock strikes midnight, the dazzling display of colorful fireworks illuminates the sky, the start of Merdeka Day celebrations. The joyous occasion of Malaysia's independence is commemorated with grandeur, as people come together to revel in the bright lights and lively music.





GLAMPING

  • The Glamping Jiwa Merdeka 2024 event is inviting Malaysians to celebrate National Day in a unique by camping out at the Mini Stadium in Taman Pancarona, Precinct 18, Putrajaya on Aug 30 and 31.

  • This event is themed Malaysia Madani Jiwa Merdeka and involves camping with family on the eve of the National Day (Aug 30) before attending the parade at Dataran Putrajaya on the morning of Aug 31, which is within distance (about 1).

  • The mini stadium can accommodate over 360 tents and 80 caravans, and campers are encouraged to bring their tents, preferably sized 3.5 m by 3.5 m, to ensure comfort.

  • The glamping packages start from RM20 to RM55, and amenities such as parking spaces, toilets, surau, and food stalls will be provided for the campers’ convenience.

  • Additionally, activities to ignite the atmosphere are scheduled to start at 4.30 pm on Aug 30, such as a coloring contest, patriotic performances, national-themed movie screenings, a tent decoration contest, and a countdown to Aug 31.

21 Roads close from 27 until 31 August 2024


In order to guarantee the safety and seamless execution of the 2024 National Day celebrations, a comprehensive plan has been put in place implement extensive road closures around Putrajaya from August 27 to 31. During the period of August 27 to 29, a total of 21 main roads around Putrajaya will be closed daily from 5 AM to 11 AM for rehearsals, while on August 30 and 31, an additional 10 main roads will be closed from 7 PM until the conclusion of the National Day celebration. This measure has been taken to ensure that event runs smoothly and without any disruptions, while also prioritizing the safety of all attendees and participants.


AUGUST 27 TO 29

The affected roads are Laman Perdana, Lebuh Wawasan – Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Lebuh Bestari – Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan P2K – Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Pembangunan – Persiaran Perdana, Jalan P3C – Persiaran Perdana, Jalan P3F – Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Kemerdekaan – Jalan P3G, Jalan P4B – Persiaran Perdana, Lebuh Setia – Jalan Perpaduan, Lebuh Perpaduan – Lebuh Saujana, Lingkaran Gemilang – Persiaran Perdana, Lebuh Saujana – Jalan Tun Hussein, Lebuh Setia – Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Kemerdekaan – Persiaran Perdana, Jalan Pembangunan – Persiaran Perdana, Jalan P2P – Persiaran Perdana, Lebuh Bestari – Jalan P2F, Jalan P2S – Persiaran Perdana, Jalan P2W – Persiaran Perdana, and Lebuh Wawasan – Persiaran Perdana.


AUGUST 30 TO 31

These roads include Persiaran Barat – Lebuh Saujana, Lebuh Sentosa – Lebuh Saujana, Lebuh Sentosa – Lebuh Wawasan, Jalan Presint 8 – Lebuh Wawasan, Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah off-ramp to Laman Perdana, Jalan Presint 18 – Lebuh Bestari, Jalan Presint 18 – Jalan Tun Hussein, Lebuh Setia – Jalan Tun Hussein, Lebuh Saujana – Jalan Tun Hussein, and Jalan Presint 5 – Lebuh Gemilang Perdana.These additional closures are necessary to accommodate the final preparations and the parade, which will see participants and spectators gather in large numbers.


 

Free Shuttle Bus Service


Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) has announced 24-hour operations for its rail services, including LRT, MRT, BRT Sunway Line, and selected bus routes, on Merdeka Eve for the 67th National Day celebrations. This marks the first extended service to support the government’s efforts in enhancing the celebrations, with 4,000 Rapid KL staff ensuring smooth operations.


Prasarana is collaborating with Putrajaya Corporation and the police for smooth traffic management, with auxiliary police assisting. Motorists in Putrajaya are urged to avoid obstructing bus routes.


Rapid KL will provide 60 free shuttle buses from Putrajaya Sentral MRT Station to Dataran Putrajaya from 6:00 PM on Aug 30 to 3:00 PM on Aug 31. Nine buses will also serve attractions like the Botanical Gardens, Marina Putrajaya, and Alamanda. Users are advised to use Touch 'n Go cards with sufficient balance. This year’s National Day in Putrajaya marks its sixth hosting and the second under the Madani government.
